The Calm Dog Framework

Understand Your Dog. Transform Your Training.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking: “My dog knows what to do… so why aren’t they doing it?” you’re not alone.

Many owners spend months trying to fix behaviours like pulling on the lead, barking, reactivity, poor recall or an inability to settle, only to find that progress feels inconsistent. Some days everything works beautifully. Other days it’s as though all the training has disappeared.

This course will help you understand why.

Rather than focusing solely on behaviour, The Calm Dog Framework explores what happens before behaviour occurs. You’ll discover how your dog’s emotional state influences learning, decision-making and everyday behaviour, giving you a completely new way of understanding the challenges you face together.

Whether you’re raising a puppy, living with an adolescent whirlwind or supporting an older dog with established habits, this course will help you build the foundations that make successful training possible.

What You'll Learn

Throughout The Calm Dog Framework, you'll discover:

Why behaviour is only one part of a much bigger picture.

How your dog's nervous system influences behaviour and learning.

Why emotional regulation should come before training.

How stress and arousal affect everyday behaviour.

The science behind calmness, focus and decision-making.

Practical strategies to help your dog become more relaxed, engaged and ready to learn.

How to apply these principles to common challenges including recall, loose lead walking, barking and reactivity.

Every lesson combines current behavioural science with practical, real-world advice you can begin using immediately.

Who Is This Course For?

The Calm Dog Framework is ideal for:

  • New puppy owners wanting to build strong foundations.
  • Owners struggling with everyday behaviour problems.
  • Anyone living with an anxious, excitable or reactive dog.
  • Owners who feel they’ve tried “everything” without lasting success.
  • People who want to understand why their dog behaves the way they do—not just what to do about it.

No previous experience is required.

Course Structure

The Calm Dog Framework is divided into ten easy-to-follow modules that guide you from understanding behaviour to applying practical solutions in everyday life.

Each module contains detailed course material, an extended reading list for those who would like to explore the subject in greater depth, and a multiple-choice quiz designed to assess your understanding of the key concepts.

Each lesson builds on the previous one, giving you a complete understanding of how behaviour develops and how lasting change can be achieved.

Course Contents

Extended Reading

Every module includes an extended reading list for learners who would like to explore the subject in greater depth.

These recommendations provide opportunities to investigate the science, theory and practical ideas connected with each module. The additional reading is there to deepen your understanding and support continued learning alongside the main course material.

Module Quizzes

At the end of each module, you will complete a multiple-choice quiz designed to assess your understanding of the key principles covered.

The required pass mark for each quiz is 80%.

The quizzes are not intended simply to test your memory. They help reinforce the course material and allow you to identify any areas that may need to be revisited before completing the final assessment.

Final Written Assessment

After completing all ten modules and their accompanying quizzes, you will complete a final written assessment.

This assessment gives you the opportunity to demonstrate that you understand The Calm Dog Framework and can apply its principles to realistic situations involving dogs and their owners.

Rather than relying entirely on multiple-choice questions, the written assessment will ask you to explain your reasoning, consider the different factors influencing behaviour and show how you would apply what you have learned. Every final assessment is personally marked by Anthony.

You will receive individual written feedback highlighting what you have understood well, where your reasoning is strong and any areas that may benefit from further development.

Continue Your Learning

After passing the final written assessment, you will have the option to book a full day with Anthony.

This is a separate, personalised experience designed for those who would like to take their learning further and apply the framework directly to their own dog and individual circumstances.

The day can include:

  • Exploring your dog’s behaviour in greater depth.
  • Applying relevant parts of the framework in practice.
  • Working through challenges that are specific to you and your dog.
  • Reviewing your routines and current training approach.
  • Developing practical strategies tailored to your goals.
  • Asking questions that arose during the course.
  • Receiving direct, individual guidance and feedback from Anthony.

The day is optional and is not required in order to complete The Calm Dog Framework.
